Ocean Surface Current Analysis - Real Time
There are three operational acoustic Doppler-type current measuring instrument installed aboard CarICOOS Data Buoys in the region at the present time. In addition, two high frequency radio stations emplaced on the west coast of PR allow visualization of surface currents in the southeastern quadrant of the Mona Passage (see" Surface Currents HF Radar Currents" under the "Current"s tab). To complement this data we here present satellite- and model-based synoptic products for the region. The OSCAR product (Ocean Surface Current Analysis- Real Time, courtesy of the NOAA PMEL laboratories) considers wind forcing in addition to the satellite altimetry. For more information regarding OSCAR, read here.
